GPs at a doctor’s surgery were thrilled to receive a heartwarming gift from a stranger – and a sweet message was attached.
A woman visited the Wollaton Park Medical Centre in Nottingham just hours after Captain Sir Tom Moore passed away on February 2 after contracting coronavirus and pneumonia.
She brought with her a box of Yorkshire tea bags so the staff could enjoy a proper brew, reports The Yorkshire Post.
Dr Jamie Parker, a partner at the practice, was blown away by the kind action and took to Twitter to thank the mystery woman.
He wrote: “If there is one thing, above all, that unites us… it’s a cup of tea.”
On the box, a small note said: “For all the NHS staff, because Sir Captain Tom Moore would want you to have nice tea.”
After spotting the doctor’s tweet, Yorkshire Tea offered to send more supplies to the surgery.
“I’m sure there are probably more deserving people of it,” Dr Parker said.
“We are going to send them to one of our local nursing homes.”
The post quickly went viral with thousands of likes, retweets and comments.
One person wrote: “I struggled to read this to my son.
“Choked. Both sad and wonderful at the same time.
“These acts of kindness make everything so much better.”
Captain Sir Tom Moore was 100 years of age when he passed away months after raising almost £33million for NHS charities by walking laps of his garden.
He tested positive for Covid-19 last week after being unable to receive the vaccine due to ongoing treatment for pneumonia.
A national clap was encouraged by the Prime Minister to celebrate Captain Sir Tom and all NHS workers on Wednesday night.
