Synopsis: High pressure moved across Victoria on Sunday with winds on the light side (out of the southeast). A low-pressure storm formed over southwest Texas out ahead of a (slow moving) cold front that is pushing in from the north northwest and moving south toward the Crossroads. Temperatures will be on the increase as warm moist air moves in from the southeast (Gulf) on Monday. Sunday nights late night patchy fog could linger into Monday morning as winds subside.
A trough will push through the area on Monday morning. High-level cirrus clouds will develop while under mostly sunny skies as the atmosphere remains dry and the trough moves off to the east. Winds will switch to out of the east today (Monday) which should keep temperatures a little bit cooler than yesterday as the air will not be as warm as the air from the south.
In the long term for the extended period, days 3 to 7, Monday night through Saturday, high pressure will keep moisture limited and will allow for dry conditions through Tuesday. The moisture (at the surface) moving into the area will allow (higher dewpoint temp’s) for more fog development overnight on Monday and Tuesday morning along with increasing clouds.
A trough will move in from the west and a cold front (slow moving) will move in from the north by the middle of the week dropping temperatures Wednesday (Wednesday night into Tuesday morning) into Thursday as the cold front moves through the area.
Before the cold front arrives, moisture out of the Gulf (south) will continue move into the area (1.5″ by late Wednesday). High pressure and sinking air will keep showers at bay until Wednesday until instability increases enough to produce showers along the cold front Wednesday night into Thursday due to the sun’s energy, the cold front and the approaching trough creating enough lift for showers and thunderstorms.
The trough will continue to move southeast across the region as the front pushes to the south while producing (lingering) showers until Thursday night. The rain chances will decrease Thursday night as storms clear the area from north to southeast through Thursday night with partly cloudy skies by Friday.
Cooler air moves in behind this front as airflow moves out of the north and northeast and into South Texas. Thursday and Friday’s high temperatures will be in the 60’s while low’s drop into the 50’s and 40’s.
Gulf moisture returns on Saturday while temperatures start to climb and storm energy pushes across South Texas. Meanwhile, a low-pressure system will strengthen as it moves over the Plains.
Tropics: Tropical Storm Wanda (50 mph winds moving west at 1 mph) strengthens as it moves south into warmer water. The storm will turn back to the north Monday and Tuesday and should start to weaken as Wanda moves into cooler water. Plus, there is storm development a few hundred miles southwest of the Cape Verde Islands that continues to produce a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms. The storm is moving northwest at 15 mph (30 percent chance of strengthening in the next 2-5 days) and is slowly becoming more organized. Upper-level winds in the next day and a half or show should start to disorganize the system.
