More than three million people suffer from inflammation and red itchy skin because of a number of factors including weather, stress, and genetics. If a person has a rash-like symptoms that appear on the arms, behind the knees, or on areas of skin exposed to varying environmental factors, it might be eczema. Board-certified dermatologist and CEO of Curology, Doctor David Lortscher discussed what eczema is and how to fight it?
“Eczema is the term for an inflammation of the superficial layers of the skin, where redness, itching, small bumps and blisters, weeping, oozing and crusting, and later scaling, and thickening of the skin may occur,” explained Doctor Lortscher.
“If your skin isn’t responding to over-the-counter treatments, there are prescription topical a dermatologist can prescribe.
“Protopic ointment and Elidel cream are calcineurim inhibitors, meaning topical medications that work to inhibit the immune system to reduce inflammation and irritation.
“I recommend using protonic ointment and Elidel cream to wean patients off topical steroids.”
Recently, the FDA approved new treatment options including Eucrisa and Dupixent. Eucrisia is a topical, non-steroid treatment that works differently that Protonic and Elidel by targeting an enzyme called phosphodiesterase that helps the body deal with inflammation.
Dupixent is an injection for individuals resistant to topical treatments or who not have access to topical topical treatments.
Dupixent works by blocking factors that allow white blood cells to communicate inflammation.
A Manchester skin well-being coach, Hanna Sillitoe, used her own experience of years of suffering from eczema to create a range of products that helped her secure an investment with judges on Dragons Den.
The 40-year-old best selling author and skin healing expert created the natural, vegan skincare range which was formulated specifically for people with skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, psoriasis, and eczema.
Sillitoe struggled with eczema for more than twenty years and after trying different creams and treatments she began researching for the best treatment to treat eczema.

The NHS added: “Treatments for eczema can help to ease the symptoms.
“There is no cure but many find their symptoms naturally improve as they get older.”
