Rats caught on camera in Sainsbury’s
Filmed at the Sainsbury’s on Essex Road in Islington, Anthony Mitson first captured the horrifying footage of two rats scurrying over uncovered croissants.
The rodents are then seen running away behind a large refrigerator.
Mitson first posted the footage to Instagram, but the video has since been shared all over social media and now boasts over 400k views on Twitter!

As the rat video made the rounds on social media, Twitter users have voiced their views on the scenario.
One user tweeted: “this video is a perfect example of why supermarkets need to stop selling pastry out in the open like this. It’s not just the rats it’s the flies too.. @sainsburys@Tesco“

Somebody else took to Twitter: “Make it mandatory for food to be kept in the plastic containers where you just put tongs in when you need the food.”
Supermarket responds to viral rat video
Addressing the viral video, a spokesperson for Sainsbury’s told this source that the Essex Road store is now closed for deep cleaning.
The spokesperson said: “We have strict processes in place to deter pests. Our Essex Road store is temporarily closed for deep cleaning and to help pest control investigate this sighting and introduce additional preventative measures.
“We’re sorry for the inconvenience this will cause our customers and we will reopen as soon as we can.”
It’s not clear when the Essex Road branch will reopen, but it looks as though the supermarket is taking the situation in hand.
