Internet users are obsessed with Mandela Effects and this might just be the strangest one yet.
A Mandela Effect is a false memory that is shared by multiple people. In other words, a big group of people all remember something that never actually happened at all. Creepy, right?
Mandela Effects exist in all walks of life, from popular brands to TV shows, celebrity deaths to historic events.
For example, lots of people thought the kids show was called Looney Toons when it was actually Looney Tunes and others were convinced that TV character Curious George had a tail when he doesn’t.
Another weird Mandela Effect revolves around the show brand Skechers, with many in agreement it was spelled like Sketchers – but there’s actually no ‘t’!
The latest weird Mandela Effect concerns Britney Spears and her famous track Oops!… I Did It Again. Prepare to be creeped out…

People thought Britney wore a microphone
This Mandela Effect begins with the music video for Britney’s popular 2000 track Oops!… I Did It Again.
It’s one of the most iconic music videos of the noughties and if you grow up around that time, you can probably picture it in your head now.
Everyone knows that the singer wore a bright red latex suit and a black microphone headset in the space-themed video, right? Well, she actually didn’t.
She did wear a red latex suit in the video which has had over 377 million views on YouTube, but there’s no headset in sight.
That’s where the Mandela Effect comes in. Thousands of people around the world distinctly remember Britney wearing a black headset, but it’s not there.
Costumes even have the black headset
Just to make things even stranger, many Oops!… I Did It Again costumes that people have worn over the years also have the accompanying headset.
For example, this post on Costume Works has the black microphone, and this Britney Spears Barbie-inspired doll does too. How strange!
Posts have taken over Twitter and TikTok in recent weeks as fans can’t get over the creepy Mandela Effect.

A third person even did a poll:
She always wore a headset on stage
Whilst many are convinced something creepy is going on here and Britney definitely wore a microphone in the video, others have come to the conclusion that they must be getting confused with her live performances.
The Toxic singer was known for wearing a headset during most of her performances in the 90s and early 2000s, including during Oops!… I Did It Again.
One clip of Britney performing the popular song on tour in London in 2000 shows her wearing a headset, whilst another sees the musician wearing a microphone whilst singing the track on Top of the Pops.
