KUALA LUMPUR – Five vehicles, including three cars, were damaged after a fireworks stall went up in flames, while fireworks filled the night sky in Cheras, Selangor on Feb 11.
A call for assistance was received at around 9.53pm, said the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn Fire and Rescue Station.
The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said 13 firemen and three fire engines were dispatched to the scene.
“The fireworks stall was completely engulfed in flames, which spread and caused five vehicles, including a Toyota Vellfire, Perodua Bezza and Proton Saga as well as two motorcycles, to catch fire.
“There were no casualties reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation,” he said in a statement, Bernama reported.
Selangor state politician Wayne Ong was attending an event nearby and went to the scene after hearing a loud sound, he told Sin Chew Daily, adding that he saw many recording videos of the fire without considering their safety.
Fire rescue department in Malaysia’s Putrajaya had earlier urged the public to handle fireworks with caution after a fire suspected to be linked to fireworks broke out at a Kuala Lumpur condominium unit on Jan 28, the eve of Chinese New Year.
