An annoyed farmer has found around 200 tyres dumped on his land near Llanymynech.
Neil Morgan said his son discovered the mess in one of his fields near the busy A483 in Arddleen after finding a gate wide open. The dairy farmer is angry that he has now been left to deal with the clean-up.
“It’s disgraceful and disgusting,” Mr Morgan said. “They haven’t got any respect for the countryside.”
The fly-tippers also left a glass table, pump, industrial vacuum, 200-litre drums, car mats and tubes. A 1,000-litre container commonly used to store industrial liquids or hazardous chemicals was also found amongst the waste.
Mr Morgan said the fly-tippers dumped the waste some time between Thursday evening (August 26) and Friday morning (August 27). He also believes that the culprits may have links to tyre or garage firms.
“I am annoyed. It’s always us farmers that have got to put up with this nuisance. We’re trying to look after the landscape and people do that to you.
“If our cattle had gone in there and smashed the glass it would be all over the floor.”
Mr Morgan said he has reported the crime to Dyfed-Powys Police and Powys County Council.
Figures released earlier this month by the NFU Mutual reveal that incidents of fly-tipping in fields, gateways and country lanes has continued to increase in “epidemic proportions” as access to waste recycling centres was restricted by lockdown and unlicensed operators dumped large volumes of waste.
