Paris St-Germain confirmed French international midfielder Aminata Diallo, 26, was taken into custody by Versailles police on Wednesday morning over an attack on the club’s players last week.
French sports newspaper L’Equipe reported that PSG women’s player Kheira Hamraoui, also a midfielder, was pulled from a car by two masked men and hit in the legs with an iron bar after a team meal organised by the club at a restaurant in the Paris suburb of Bois de Boulogne on November 4.
The men then fled.
French media reported that Diallo was driving and another teammate was in the car at the time.
Hamraoui was taken to hospital and given stitches to her hands and legs and missed PSG’s 4-0 win over Spanish club Real Madrid on Tuesday evening.
Diallo played in the match.
Hamraoui, also a French international, returned to PSG this year after five seasons at Barcelona.
PSG released a statement condemning the violence “in the strongest terms”.
“Since Thursday evening, the club has taken all necessary measures to guarantee the health, well-being and safety of its entire women’s team,” the statement said.
“Paris St-Germain is working with the Versailles police to shed light on the facts.
“The club is paying close attention to the progress of the proceedings and will study what action to take.”
