Curtin University’s Physicist Associate Professor Nigel Marks says France has decided to “they really need to go in with both feet” and “invest hard” in nuclear energy to tackle its 2050 climate target.
It comes after the announcement from French President Emmanuel Macron of an investment in at least six new nuclear reactors to help reach the country’s climate target by 2050.
“It’s a great development really … France has really struggled with its commitment to nuclear power, they were winding things back a little bit, and they’ve had some well publicised difficulties with their new builds,” Professor Marks told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
