It won’t be long before the next big Marvel’s Avengers DLC is released on PS4 and PS5 consoles.

This one is very special as it will add one of the most popular superheroes to the game at no extra charge.

Not only will it be a free DLC that everyone can enjoy who owns the game, but will also be exclusive to the PlayStation platform.

With that in mind, there is a lot of hype surrounding the release of Spider-Man as part of Marvel’s Avengers.

The inclusion of the famous web slinger was revealed during the original launch of the game and it’s taken a long time to see the free update secure a release window.

And we now know that Spider-Man will become fully playable as part of an upcoming download for Marvel’s Avengers, scheduled for release on November 30.

But there is also some very disappointing news tied to this launch that gamers spotted straight away. While gamers can look forward to playing as a new character, they will not be getting a fresh story campaign.

Even though Spider-Man would make for a brilliant new chapter in Marvel’s Avengers, no such plans are in place.

Instead, Peter Parker will be arriving in-game as part of a new event, with Square Enix explaining this month:

“As you know from our roadmap update, the Spider-Man: With Great Power Hero Event comes to PlayStation players with Patch 2.2 on November 30.

So, what is a Hero Event? How does it differ from an Operation? The overarching difference is scale, which impacts the way the story is told.

“The Hero-Event doesn’t come with a story campaign in the way an Operation does. The Spider-Man Hero Event narrative is told through a combination of cutscenes, dialogue, and a chain of documents.

“There are objectives for his story that unlock these documents as they are completed, which unfolds his narrative arc and gradually reveals his journey in our original Avengers world.

“As a result, Spider-Man will already be unlocked for existing Missions, rather than having to recruit him as a playable Hero during his story via story missions.”

Losing out on a full Spider-Man experience hosted in Avengers is a major disappointment for gamers who have waited so long to play the new character.

However, even though there are limitations in place to how you can use Spider-Man, there will be plenty of stuff to unlock for Peter Parker.

A rundown of some of the unlockable Spider-Man gear can be found below, including the new outfits and cosmetics coming to the game on November 30:

Iconic Suit

In our Iconic take, we added elements that put Peter Parker’s science and engineering talents on display. His suit’s fabrics are more thoughtfully built for a skyscraper-swinging crimefighter, with a sharkskin-like material in the red areas and a coarser, more durable one in the blue.

The Bugle Boy Suit

In the comics, Peter’s attempts to live a normal life are often thwarted by the need for Spider-Man.

The Secret War Suit

Designed by Gabriele Dell’Otto’s for the Secret War limited series, this Spider-Man design has jumped out as one of the wall-crawler’s most striking interpretations. We wanted to amplify the “spy” elements with our version, balancing the artist’s bold colour and graphics usage of the original with a more tactically inspired foundation.

The Spider-Armor Mark I Suit

Based on Alex Saviuk’s design from Web of Spider-Man #100 back in 1993 when Spider-Man was fighting Super-Adaptoid, our Mark I has been updated based on where Peter was in his journey at the time of its creation. Imagined to be needed very early in his career, we conceptualized it to be more “maker-friendly” than his later armours. Its construction is informed by gear and materials Peter would have had available to him in a high school workshop setting.

The Spider-Armor Mark III Suit

As Peter matured in the Marvel’s Avengers world, so did his abilities at creating speciality Spider-Man armours. The Mark III, or the “Ends of the Earth” suit as it’s referred to, seeks to visually show that progression. Originally designed by Stefano Caselli for Amazing Spider-Man #682, this variable threat suit has a heavier look than other Spidey outfits, and that gave us an opportunity to introduce further visual variety into his lineup.
