Fresh Prince of Bel Air’s Aunt Viv sends support to Will Smith after the King Richard star was seen slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars.
Janet Hubert, who played Vivian Banks in the TV series alongside Will Smith, took to social media to defend the actor.
Hubert, who fans will remember as the original star to play Aunt Viv in the early 1990s, told Smith through Instagram that “nothing else matters.”
Hubert posted: “So PROUD OF YOU!
“There is only so much one can take… sometimes you have to slap back.
“Celebrate the win… nothing else matters.”
The 66-year-old added: “Both actions were incorrect but Chris didn’t need to go there.”
She then took to Twitter to expand even further: “I cannot tell you how many times I have wanted to slap the mess out of so many folks who have disrespected me.”
What did Chris Rock say to Jada Pinkett Smith?
The shocking incident from the 2022 Oscars followed the comedian, 57, aiming a joke at Smith’s wife Jada, aged 50.
Jada Pinkett Smith, who was sitting near Will and suffers from hair loss due to alopecia, didn’t seem to enjoy the dig.
Chris said on stage: “Jada, I love ya. GI Jane 2 – can’t wait to see it.”
Cameras panned over to the star whose smile faded as she rolled her eyes.
Moments later, the Men In Black star was seen storming towards the stage before slapping Chris Rock.
Hubert’s defence on social media comes as other celebrities reacted to the drama from the awards.
How have celebrities reacted to the Oscars slap?
Shameless star Shanola Hampton tweeted: “There is NEVER a justification for VIOLENCE! Never, ever, ever!!”
Whereas Mirai Nagasu tweeted over the fact that some countries were shown the full coverage of the incident. In the UK and the US a technical difficulty saw the audio and footage temporarily go off air. However in Japan and Australia, as an example, the live feed didn’t stop.
Mirai Nagasu tweeted: “Hahaha thank you Japanese television.”
Will and Jada Smith’s son Jaden simply tweeted: “And That’s How We Do It.” a few hours after the incident.
He later tweeted over how his father’s Oscar acceptance speech made him emotional, but has since deleted the post.
And rapper Cardi B seemed to reflect the words that Denzel Washington said to the Men In Black star following the drama. Denzel took Smith to one side in the moments after the slap to encourage him to continue on with the evening.
