The smiling kids, colorful booths and stacks of cookie boxes that signal Girl Scout Cookie season are always a welcome sight outside of grocery stores and malls across the country.

Although Girl Scouts in their uniforms dotted with accomplishment badges may melt your heart and influence you to buy more boxes than expected, these young women are successful pint-sized entrepreneurs.

The Girl Scout Cookie program is the largest girl-led entrepreneurial program in the world. It comprises 111 councils, around 4,000 troops, and over 700,000 Girl Scouts.

However, inflation has become a fact of life that entrepreneurs and the general population cannot avoid; even the Girl Scouts have not been immune to its effects.

The annual sale of Girl Scout cookies is welcomed by customers across the country; this year Girl Scout Cookies will cost $7 a box.

The continual increase in Girl Scout cookie prices

For a long time, Girl Scout cookies maintained a price of $4 per box. That is, until 2015, when it increased to $5, which many thought was the biggest hike yet. Then, in 2023, the price increased again to $6 per box, costing more than the average grocery store cookie box, which tends to be less than $5, depending on the brand.

As of 2025, a single box of Girl Scout cookies will cost up to $7 per box, depending on location.

Although the cost of production has increased due to inflation and the volatile economic environment, the profits made stay within the local councils and troops and are used to provide better programming and experiences for the Girl Scouts.

Despite the multiple price increases, loyal Girl Scout cookie customers didn’t let these minor setbacks stop them from enjoying their seasonal favorites. According to the latest Girl Scouts’ financial statement, the organization raised over $4 million in 2023.

Girl Scouts makes a major announcement that shocks the cookie-loving community

On Tuesday, the Girl Scouts announced the kick-off of the national Girl Scout Cookie season for 2025, a highly anticipated event for cookie fans.

However, the sweet announcement quickly turned sour after the Girl Scouts revealed some unexpected and not-so-great news that disappointed snackers everywhere.

Although the start of a new year usually brings great news and new cookie releases, this year, the Girl Scouts announced that the fan-favorite S’mores, released in 2017, and Toast-Yay!, released in 2021, will be retired from the original lineup.

More Retail News:

  • Costco issues recall for essential medication over concerning contamination
  • Walmart issues major recall in 20 states over concerning food contamination
  • Arby’s sued twice over growing problem in alarming fast food trend

The 2025 cookie lineup includes the iconic Thin Mints, Samoas/Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties/Tagalongs, Peanut Butter Sandwich/Do-si-dos, Lemonades, Lemon-Ups, Adventurefuls, Caramel Chocolate Chip, Toffee-tastic, and Trefoils.

But there is no need to cry just yet because the S’mores and Toast-Yay! can still be purchased until the end of the 2025 season while supplies last by buying them from a nearby Girl Scout cookie booth or online through the organization’s official website.

Girl Scout cookies fans react to the devastating news

As the saying goes, “When a door closes, another door opens,” and this quote has proven true every time a Girl Scout cookie gets discontinued from the original lineup.

Although sad, the retirement of the S’mores and Toast-Yay! cookies leave room for new cookie flavors to be released in the future.

However, some customers reacted poorly to the news and took to social media to express their sadness.
