Global media rounds on rude Hugh Grant over painful Oscars – TodayHeadline

Hugh Grant has been condemned by global media for his ‘painfully awkward’ red carpet interview with Ashley Graham at the Oscars last night.

The 62-year-old actor lacked any real enthusiasm as he stepped out to the Los Angeles event – and blatantly showed disdain to the 34-year-old supermodel’s questions.

Grant has been lambasted by media at home and abroad for shutting down the enthusiastic reporter and even rolling his eyes during the ‘excruciating’ interview about his short cameo on the Glass Onion film.

At the start of the interview, Ms Graham asked him: ‘What was it like to be in Glass Onion? How fun is it to shoot something like that?’

But she was met with an awkward response: ‘Well I’m barely in it, I was in it for about three seconds,’ Grant replied.

Hugh Grant has been condemned as a ‘piece of s**t’ and an ‘a**hole’ by global media for his ‘painfully awkward’ red carpet interview with Ashley Graham

‘It still must have been fun though, you had fun right?’ the 34-year-old said as she powered through the uncomfortable chat.

‘Erm… almost,’ the actor replied as he looked away.

Grinning and bearing the interview, the model asked: ‘What are you wearing?’ While Hugh offered an insightful: ‘My suit.’

In the fallout since the interview, Norwegian publication TV2 ran the headline, ‘What a piece of s**t’ below a picture of the Notting Hill actor in reference to the social media backlash he has endured.

Meanwhile, French outlet FranceDaily went with the headline: ‘Hugh Grant rolls his eyes after painfully awkward Oscars red carpet interview’.

In a brutal assessment of the The Four Weddings and a Funeral star’s interview, the article opened by saying: ‘Why stop doing a red carpet interview if you’re going to be an a**hole on live TV?

‘That’s the question we have for Hugh Grant, who literally rolled his eyes after rejecting every one of Ashley Graham’s questions during the Oscar pre-show airing on ABC on Sunday.’

Italian newspaper Il Messaggero also participated in the backlash, accusing Grant of assuming a ‘rude attitude during the interview, responding with a bored, blatantly uninterested way’.

They added: ‘Despite the journalist’s attempts to establish a normal dialogue, the face of “Notting Hill” has chosen monosyllables and sometimes contemptuous.’

US magazine Rolling Stone did not hold back either, stating: ‘Hugh Grant had a bad night, coming off as the ceremony’s unchallenged b***** queen. He did a red-carpet interview with Ashley Graham, rolling his eyes and complaining about not having enough screen time in Glass Onion.’

The outlet also took to their social media channels to have a dig at Grant, tweeting: ‘And the Oscar for Best Actress goes to Ashley Graham telling Hugh Grant “it was nice to talk to you”.’

Grant’s agonizing interview has been felt far and wide, with Greek publication OEMA running the headline: ‘Killing Rude Hugh Grant and Ashley Graham’s Snob Interview at the Oscars’. They too criticised Grant for being ‘awkward’ and ‘brief’.

Meanwhile, the Washington Post labelled Grant’s interview as ‘excruciating’ and  Swedish paper Expressen simply asked: ‘But what are you saying, Hugh Grant?’

Italian website Corriere rated different actors’ displays at the Oscars but as expected, Grant was not judged highly. The Love Actually star was given a four out of 10 and branded ‘mischievous’.

They said ‘he did everything to dampen the enthusiasm of the interviewer’.

Those at home watching the 95th Annual Academy Awards flocked to social media last night to criticise Grant, with some referring to him as ‘awkward’, ‘painful’ and ‘uncomfortable’.

It momentarily took away from a stunning night in Hollywood, where Everything Everywhere All At Once ruled the Academy Awards with seven wins including Best Picture, while Michelle Yeoh won Best Actress for her role in the film.

Brendan Fraser completed his incredible career comeback with a Best Actor win for his role in The Whale.
