Alex Beresford returned to social media with a hopeful message after being given an unfavourable reading in Piers Morgan’s latest account of his final days on Good Morning Britain.
Earlier today, Piers’ no-holds barred re-telling of his departure from ITV daytime was published.
In it the outspoken presenter touched on his infamous on-air spat with Alex who he accused of being ‘uptight’ and slammed for ‘getting personal’ in their on-air fall out.
The two men had come to blows live on GMB after Alex accused Piers of being resentful that Meghan Markle ‘ghosted him’ as he explained that he couldn’t understand the 55-year-old’s ‘obsession.’
Speaking out about the incident in his Mail on Sunday column, Piers appeared hold a grudge against Alex – who he described as an ‘occasional stand-in weatherman’ – as he revealed: “I’ve had nice messages from all the other GMB presenters, apart from Alex Beresford, and many of the wonderful production team, from camera operators and producers to make-up artists.”
Posting to Instagram after the Piers’ version of events was made public, Alex opted to swerve the drama by sharing a snap of him smiling in his workout gear.
“Probably shouldn’t have my trainers on this white rug! Anyway bless up yourselves on what looks like a grey Sunday. Remember the sun still rises and sets so beautifully some place in the world everyday” he told his followers.
It comes after the presenter was praised by fans for stepping up to present Good Morning Britain on Friday as a main host.
Returning to the show for the first time since his drama with Piers, Alex told viewers it was ‘good to be back.’
“You’ve had tumultuous times as well Alex, it’s lovely to have you here, it very much is,” co-presenter Kate Garraway told him.
Alex is one of the favourites to apply to take over from Piers full time.
In his Mail column, Piers revealed that it had taken someone 17 minutes to apply for his old job after the announcement was made – but avoided revealing who the mystery applicant was.
Piers said ITV’s Director of Television Kevin Lygo told him “It took precisely 17 minutes for the first application for my GMB job to arrive after the announcement I’d left, which we both found highly amusing.
“I’m only surprised it took that long; television is full of happy smiley fakes who pretend to be your biggest fan to your face but who’d dance the tango on your grave if they thought it would get them more airtime.”
