“I am qutting software engineering primarily due to how good AI has gotten these days, Claude writes close to 70% of all code in my company, 2 years go it was so bad and now its too good. I can forsee a future where so many engineers are not needed,” he wrote.
He added that this shift could intensify competition in an already crowded job market like India, where thousands of engineers graduate every year.
Faster work, fewer people needed
The engineer explained how timelines have shrunk drastically with AI support, raising concerns about job cuts.

Convinced that the trend will continue, he decided to leave the tech industry altogether.
Leaving Bengaluru tech life behind
The Reddit user said he is switching careers and moving back to Rajasthan to work with a friend.
“I am joining my friend photo and videography studio back in Udaipur, luckily I havent bought any flat in Bangalore to sell.”
His decision sparked debate online, with many users agreeing that AI is changing software jobs faster than expected.
Layoff story adds to growing fear
The concerns raised in the AI-focused post mirror another recent Reddit story from a 2023 engineering graduate who was laid off after a product shutdown at a Fortune 500 company.
The full-stack developer, hired through campus placements with a package of ₹11 lakh per annum, said his entire team was let go and given a two-month severance.
The post was captioned, “Laid off and anxious. Unsure of what to do moving forward.”
Family pressure and late-night anxiety
The laid-off techie shared that he had relied on core subjects and React-based projects to secure his role, without formally studying data structures and algorithms.
Coming from a remote town, the salary supported his family. “From a remote town, a salary of 75-80k was a good enough thing for me to sustain my family,” the post said.
“I’ve prepared my resume and started applying, but I’m unsure if I’m doing things right. I’m currently typing this up at 4 am and the anxiety is killing me as my family is dependent on me,” he wrote.
Reddit users respond with support
Both posts drew strong reactions from Reddit users, many of whom shared similar fears about layoffs and financial responsibility.
One user commented, “This is scary, especially when family depends on you, so what you’re feeling is completely normal.”
Another wrote, “I’m really sorry you’re going through this. Getting laid off hits harder than people admit.”
A third pointed to short-term relief, saying, “Two months’ severance gives you a small buffer.”
