FINAL LEADERBOARD
EQUIPMENT NOTES:
- Korda is yet to put the new T-Series line of irons in play from her sponsor Titleist, but it is likely due to a lack of time for testing the new models released a little over a week ago. The younger Korda has played a very busy schedule that won’t settle now with the Ladies Scottish Open and AIG Women’s Open in the next fortnight. And Korda’s current T100 set is working pretty well, the 23-year-old putting on a ball striking clinic around Kasumigaseki this week.
-
Of interest in Korda’s bag is her TSi1 driver, a model Titleist indicates is designed for moderate swing speed players, rather than the best players in the world. But the launch conditions and spin clearly suit Nelly’s game, she ranks in the top-10 for driving distance on the LPGA Tour and averages more than 73 percent of fairways for the year.
-
Korda is one of the many players on men’s and women’s Tours around the world opting for higher lofted fairway woods, with Korda employing her 7-wood off the tee numerous times during the week in Tokyo as she placed a premium on accuracy rather than maximising distance, where she had a distinct advantage over many of the players vying for medals.
-
After her missed cut at the U.S. Open, Korda put a new putter in play, her Squareback Scotty Cameron replacing a more traditional blade model. And it is fair to say it won’t be going anywhere soon. Since putting the wide body model fitted with a plumbers neck in play, Korda has won three times (one a major and one gold medal), while she recorded two top-20s in her only other starts, one alongside sister Jessica in a teams event, the other at the Evian.
-
Korda’s gold medal signals a solid two week period for Titleist golf balls at the Olympics, the Pro V1 and Pro V1x used by four of the six medallists for the week.
