Gina Grattan, a spokesperson for the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), the largest union of federal public sector workers, said Canadians will be “shocked” when they learn about the extent of the job reductions. If the government returns to pre-pandemic levels of employment, she said in a statement, that would mean the reduction of about 70,000 jobs, leaving important services in Canada to be run by a weakened public service.
