UK startup Generational has unveiled “a strategy to supercharge car-dealers’ and consumers’ confidence in used EVs”. The solution seemingly resides with a novel battery-health assessment technology, which the group says is intuitive and state-of-the-art.
The proprietary battery assessment tool is said to provide simple, seamless battery-health checks for pre-owned EVs – allowing dealers to provide consumers with peace of mind, achieve sales at a faster rate, and reduce vehicles’ time on the forecourt.
Transparency into battery health and vehicle value is fundamental to an efficient and thriving used EV market. Of the more-than 13,000 car dealerships in the UK, less than 40% currently list a single pre-owned EV. This spotlights the urgent need to boost dealers’ confidence in selling – and consumers’ assurance in buying – used electric vehicles, in order to build a sustainable, profitable market.
Generational’s toolset, optimised for vehicles in the UK market, is designed from the ground-up to provide a comprehensive solution to these challenges. Requiring minimal training and guided by the business’ intuitive mobile app, dealer personnel plug Generational’s small device into an EV’s OBD port – securely analysing the vehicle’s data to accurately determine its battery’s state of health, before it’s acquired by the dealer.
The result is simply presented as a percentage of its condition compared to new, benchmarked against the manufacturer’s original data. The state-of-health figure is complemented by real-range assessment, both also benchmarked against Generational’s comprehensive EV battery-health database – developed over the past two years and continuously expanding as more vehicles are tested – providing a highly accurate picture of the battery’s condition.
When the car hits the forecourt, dealers can present these results in an easy-to-understand certificate for consumers – providing the reassurance needed to achieve sales faster, improve vehicle stockturn, and maximise profit margins.
