Nigerian chef Hilda Baci took a swing at breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time recently. However, despite her feat, the world records website still names the previous winner in the category.
Landing in the Guinness World Records list is a dream for many across the world. However, Nigerian chef Hilda is very close to realizing that dream with her recent internationally watched cookathon.
The 27-year-old chef became an international sensation after cooking for over four days continuously, on a live stream. Hilda began her mission on Thursday, May 11 at 4 pm when she turned her cooker on.
She mostly cooked famous Nigerian meals. The menu had items like jollof rice, and Akara which is a street food item made with deep-fried mashed beans. The chef also prepared various different types of rice and pasta.
Some internet users might remember that a prank went viral on Twitter a few months back, suggesting that the famous Nigerian jollof rice is dangerous to health.
Many joined chef Hilda’s live stream to watch her achieve her dream and set a new record for the longest cooking time. However, some are surprised that Guinness World Records has not spoken about Hilda’s impressive record-breaking attempt yet.
Guinness World Records is reviewing Hilda Baci’s cookathon
For those still wondering why Guinness World Records has kept mum about Hilday’s cookathon yet, they have spoken about it on their Twitter.
A Twitter user asked them “Why is @GWR not showing or talking about Hilda’s cook-a-ton? Can’t see anything on their pages (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube).”
Replying to the commenter, they said, “We’re aware of this amazing record attempt, we need to review all the evidence first before officially confirming a record.”
Hence those worried that Hilda’s efforts won’t be recognized need not fret about the same.
Guinness World Records website still shows 2019’s winner, Lata Tondon, an Indian National as the longest-cooking time record holder. The previous winner’s longest time was 87 hours and 45 minutes.
Vanguard reports that Hilda’s cooking time was 100 hours which is four hours above her initial target of 96 hours.
Moreover, BBC has noted that no Guinness World Records officials were present at the venue of Hilda’s cookathon in Lekki, Lagos. However, the venue was full of CCTV cameras.
Chef Hilda Baci is also a TV star in Nigeria
Watching the chef livestream her Guinness World Records attempt, wasn’t the first time seeing her in action for many Nigerian viewers.
The chef is a widely known TV personality. She has hosted Rave TV’s breakfast show In My Kitchen. She has also hosted Dine On A Budget on Pop Central TV.
Not only is Chef Hilda a television personality but she has also tried her hands in acting. The 27-year-old has appeared in the movie Dream Chaser which was nominated for Best Movie at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
Chef’s Guinness World Records attempt was very challenging
The rules Chef Hilda followed during her cookathon were no child’s play.
The chef was only allowed one assistant at a time, leaving her to bare a maximum of the world load. Moreover, she was allowed only a tiny five-minute break every hour, or the equivalent of that after multiple hours.
While she had a smile on her face as he fed her guests all of her delicious recipes, she began showing signs of exhaustion in the last few hours.
BBC reports, the chef got cold compresses applied to her head. She also opted for foot massages on her breaks. A medical assistant was present to check her vitals.
