Hali Rahbani, the second son of iconic Lebanese singer Fairuz, died on Thursday, just months after the passing of his older brother Ziad.
Hali, who was 68, lived all his life with paralysis due to a childhood bout of meningitis. He is now the third of Fairuz’s children to pass away during her lifetime, leaving just one daughter alive.
Lebanese officials, cultural figures, and fan took to social media to share their condolences and messages of support for Fairuz.
Writing on X, Lebanon’s Information Minister Paul Morcos described Hali’s passing as a “painful loss for a family that has given Lebanon and the world an invaluable artistic and human legacy”.
Fairuz’s older son, composer and playwright Ziad Rahbani died in Lebanon on 25 July, aged 69. Her daughter Layal previously died at the age of 28 in 1988 from a stroke.
Rima Rahbani, also an artist, is the singer’s last surviving child.
Fairuz, who was born in 1935 as Nouhad Wadie Haddad, began her musical career in the late 1940s and is one of the most celebrated and influential singers in the history of the Arab world.
French President Emmanuel Macron made a point of meeting her during his visit to Lebanon in 2020, soon after the Beirut port blast.
