Pop icon Harry Styles has finally confirmed that juicy hit ‘Watermelon Sugar’ is indeed about oral sex.
Saying explicitly what anyone who has seen the video already knew, Styles told fans in Nashville that ‘Watermelon Sugar’ is “about the female orgasm”.
“The song is about – it doesn’t really matter what it’s about,” Styles said on 1 October whilst on tour at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
The Fine Line singer continued: “It’s about, um, the sweetness of life! … It’s also about the female orgasm but that’s totally different, it’s not really relevant. So that settles that.”

In the video for ‘Watermelon Sugar’, Harry Styles frolics on a beach wearing vintage clothes, surrounded by attractive models. He eats a watermelon slice, the attractive models eat watermelon slices, the watermelon slices drip everywhere… you get the picture.
The lyrics are not exactly subtle, either: “I just wanna taste it, I just wanna taste it / Watermelon sugar high / Tastes like strawberries / On a summer evenin’ / And it sounds just like a song / I want your belly / And that summer feelin’ / I don’t know if I could ever go without.”
While Styles may have verbally confirmed that ‘Watermelon Sugar’ is about “the female orgasm” for the first time this weekend, the heavy-handed references to oral sex and vaginas in the lyrics had already given it away to most fans.
If that hadn’t been picked up on, then it seems reasonable to think that the fact that Styles said, when he released Fine Line in December 2019, that the ‘Watermelon Sugar’ video “is dedicated to touching” should have done the trick.
One thing that Styles hasn’t confirmed yet, though, is when the next album will be dropping. As it approaches the two-year birthday of Fine Line, which was his second studio album, patience may begin wearing thin.
Meanwhile, speculation has been rife that Styles and Lizzo – who performed together in pre-pandemic times and were seen hanging out at awards shows – might release an album of duets.
