This homemade crock pot applesauce is so much better than the store bought. It is great in recipes for muffins, pancakes and cakes, too. You can increase or decrease the spices to suit yourself. My family really enjoys making this a few times a year. Especially in the fall, we go to the orchard and buy a bunch of apples to make our own applesauce. It’s always fun to make fun traditions around food.
Homemade Crock Pot Applesauce Ingredients Needed
10 medium sized apples
Water
Brown sugar
Ground cinnamon
Ground nutmeg
Ground allspice
Cardamom
Honey
The great thing about this recipe is you can adjust the spices to your liking. I used Red Delicious apples to make this recipe, but you can probably use just about any kind of apple. We like our applesauce chunky however other people don’t so you can easily mash it up once it’s hot. Some people even take it out of the crockpot and run it through a blender. I don’t feel the need to do that since we don’t mind the delicious chunks of apple.

Homemade Crock Pot Applesauce
Servings: 10 servings
- 10 medium sized apples peeled and cored, cut up in pieces (I used Red Delicious for this one but you could use about any kind of apple)
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom
- 2 to 3 tablespoons honey

Mix together water, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cardamom and honey with a wire whisk.

Pour over apples.

Cook on low for 7 to 8 hours or high 4 hours.
Makes about 1 1/2 quarts.
You can mash up the apples in the cooked sauce if you want to make it smoother. We like it chunky and I like the chunky better for using in recipes.
