Hong Kong police have arrested a man for allegedly assaulting two people in a railway station, including a 59-year-old staff member who fractured a right rib after intervening in the situation.
A police source said on Tuesday the 46-year-old man, who suffered from depression and had follow-up appointments at hospital, was experiencing cramps while sitting on the platform at Sham Shui Po MTR station.
Another male passenger tried to help but was kicked five or six times and forcefully pushed away.
“Subsequently, the man continuously walked in and out of the train carriage into the platform, obstructing the closing of the train doors,” the insider said. “The incident resulted in a 10-minute delay in the train service.”
An off-duty police officer and firefighter witnessed the incident and subdued the man who was later arrested, the insider said.
