(Asking mostly for my own curiosity because we’re planning on living in this house for 30 years, so re-sell value is a concern for pretty far into the future, but I’m just generally curious.)
We’re buying a house that has a kitchen that is separated from the family room by a formal dining room (here is the floor plan, if you’re curious).
We are planning to open up the kitchen, which is currently pretty tight, but the only way to plausibly make it part of the rest of the house is to expand it into the dining room area.
This would, basically, eliminate the formal dining room. There would still be a nice space to eat as part of the kitchen, but that single-room dining area would just vanish.
What are the implications there? Are we destroying a ton of value by not being able to check the “dining room” box for future buyers?
