RESIDENTS in Oswestry and Whitchurch can help the people of Ukraine by donating to a crowdfunder set up to support refugees fleeing the country.
The UK-based Polish Integration Support Centre (PISC) has started a fundraiser which people can donate to. It is aiming to raise money to support the delivery of supplies for refugees arriving at the Polish-Ukrainian border, with people in and around Oswestry and Whitchurch able to also donate vital items at local premises in both towns this week.
“The Polish Integration Support Centre will lead and coordinate the ‘Polish-British Solidarity with Ukraine’ action together with Poles, with whom we have cooperated over a few years,” said Anna Buckley, project director of the PISC.
“We need in particular thermal clothing, sleeping bags, crayons, toys, survival blankets, plasters, shampoos, first ad kids, clothing (new), sanitary towels, napkins and metal cups.
“Currently, 400,000 children and women have crossed the Polish-Ukrainian border. It is estimated their number will reach 3-5 million. We support Poles on the borders in refugee relocation points.”
Based in Wrexham and Chester, the PISC will launch their initiative on Monday, February 28, with people able to take the above mentioned items to designated points in their communities throughout the week, until Friday, March 4.
In Oswestry, people can take their items to: 54 Laburnum Drive (SY11 2QR) from Monday to Friday from 5-9pm. Contact Karolina Matusiak on 07544 061801. In Whitchurch, take items to: the Continental Convenience Store on Green End (SY13 1AA) from 9am-8pm Monday-Friday. Contact Krzysztof Salik on 07528 014924.
You can also contribute to the crowdfunder set up by Anna too, which has so far raised over £1,500. Visit https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/anna-buckley-334.
Similar collections are also taking place in Wrexham, Chester, Liverpool, Manchester, London, Flintshire and Telford. “On the poster you can see the point of contact for each county,” added Anna. “If there are any problems please contact me on 07523 627826.”
The PISC is a social institution, registered as a community interest company, created by Anna.
The organisation plays a pioneering role in relation to such initiatives as integrating society, educating the mother tongue and reducing the language barrier, settled status, unemployment, hate crime and domestic violence.
It prepares and implements projects aimed at short-term aid (Covid-19) and long-term projects.
