M&S shoppers were left upset this week by a Christmas card at the British retailer which some found “offensive”.

Marks and Spencer is famous for its mascot Percy Pig and in recent years the shop has diversified their range of Piggy goodies with everything from pancake syrup to Percy Pig fizzy drinks hitting shelves.

And, the lovable character has been plastered onto the M&S Christmas range for those who love him.

Unfortunately, Percy has upset some Brits due to a series of money wallets in the festive range.

The “Merry Pigmas” cash wallets are sold in packs with one card and two money envelopes at a cost of £5.50.

Sales of the set will help donate £200,000 to M&S partners, including giving Shelter 24%, Breast Cancer Now 24%, Royal British Legion 24%, Macmillan Cancer Support 24% and Marie Keating Foundation 4%.

But, one woman, mum-of-four Laura, a priest’s daughter, took to Facebook to slam the design.

She asked if the supermarket would “replace the name of another religion’s prophet with ‘pig’ for a laugh?”

And, the doula and author – who claims to have an Oxford theological degree – found her post attracted thousands of other Christians who were also “offended” by the decision.

But, some others dubbed them “snowflakes” and suggested they “get a grip”.

Laura wrote: “Honestly, M&S – would you replace the name of another religion’s prophet with ‘pig’ for a laugh? This is unacceptable.”

While another woman commented: “Absolutely offensive! Imagine doing that with any other deity! We are a Christian country!”

And, a third said: “Deeply offensive. What an arrogant attitude for Marks and Spencer to have…. to think this is even acceptable.”

Another raged that non-religious people shouldn’t celebrate Christmas.

She said: “Yes I don’t agree with that mockery at all. Christmas is the celebration of Christ not anything else.

“If you’re not celebrating Christ then don’t celebrate it. I am offended.”

But one woman added: “Omg I’ve seen it all now, the ones who are offended obviously are in cahoots with each other. Get a grip, Percy the pig is their trademark!”
