DEAR DEIDRE: WHEN I was 19 and driving my dad’s car, I knocked down and fatally injured a 15-year-old girl.
I have been on the road to hell ever since. I hadn’t been drinking when I had the accident but afterwards I got into alcohol and drugs – anything to help me forget as I couldn’t forgive myself.

My team and I are working safely from home but we are here to help you as always.
Friends couldn’t either, as most knew the girl and turned against me.
One threw a brick through my window and then others dumped rubbish in our garden. I’d often get nasty letters in the post.
It’s more than 20 years ago now but I’ve spent all that time thinking I am a terrible person.
I realise that all the drinking and drugs did was mask my feelings.
They are destroying me but they’ve become a habit I have no idea how to break.
