Nate Silvester is fired over TikTok video
Law enforcement officer Nate Silvester was fired on May 27th, 2021.
Nate was initially suspended from work after a TikTok he posted a video in April 2021 mocking basketball player LeBron James.
The video saw Nate acting out a fictional conversation with ‘LeBron’ over the telephone. He asked the basketball player what he should do about an imaginary stabbing that he’d been called to.
The video followed Tweets that LeBron had posted in relation to the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Ma’Khia Bryant.
In April Bellevue Marshall’s Office suspended Nate and said that the issue would be dealt with internally. However, he’s now been fired.
TikTok: Why was the police officer fired?
Nate Silvester was suspended in April and Bellevue Marshall’s Office posted a statement on their Facebook page: “The Bellevue Marshal’s Office is aware of the extreme controversy regarding Deputy Marshal Silvester’s viral TikTok. The statements made do NOT represent the Bellevue Marshal’s Office“.
He wasn’t fired for the content of his TikTok videos, however. As per FOX News, the mayor said that Nate was fired due to “his failure to follow clearly laid out well-established policies“.
By the looks of Nate’s TikTok page, the LeBron James video isn’t the first in which he’s covered the topic of racism. In May 2021, Nate took to TikTok to answer questions that had been asked by his followers concerning the cases of Dylann Roof and Ma’Khia Bryant.
Following his suspension and now, firing, Nate’s friend launched a GoFundMe page for him. The former police officer has also released a book called “Never Off Duty“.
