Former WBC champion Deontay Wilder has received a lot of criticism from the boxing community following his maiden loss against Tyson Fury. However, it became bizarre when former NFL player Brandon Marshall vowed to outbox Wilder inside the ring.
Marshall possesses a big physique and has tried his hands at a boxing gym. Boxing great, Evander Holyfield, had hailed him as an intimidating puncher. That said, Deontay Wilder is a professional boxer and is still one of the best in the business.
The former NFL wide receiver didn’t ridicule ‘The Bronze Bomber’s’ abilities, but backed himself against the Alabama native.
Speaking with TMZ, Marshall said, “I mean he (Wilder) is a freak athlete but what I would say is, I would challenge Deontay Wilder to dive a little deeper into the sweet science and that’s where I think I separate myself from a lot these heavyweights.”
He added, “I appreciate the chance. That’s my guy, he’s taught me a lot as well over the years but Deontay Wilder, I’mma outbox him, I’mma outclass him if I ever get that opportunity.”
In recent times, several athletes and celebrities have shown their love for boxing. NBA player Nate Robinson made his boxing debut at the undercard of Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr. on November 28.
So, a former NFL player can also walk the same path. But fighting an elite like Wilder may not happen, especially when the heavyweight pugilist is trying to find his way back to the top.
What’s next for Deontay Wilder?
The Alabaman native hasn’t announced his return. He is rumored to fight Chir Martin next, but a trilogy with Tyson Fury is also relevant. Meanwhile, WBC champion Fury has expressed his desire in fighting Anthony Joshua to unify the heavyweight belts.

So, Wilder can return against any of the top contenders in a non-title fight. On bagging a win, he can rightfully demand a title shot against any of the heavyweight champions. But, fans might want him to return to the winning ways before fighting for the championship again. ‘The Bronze Bomber‘ too would be thinking along the same lines, and hence a fight against Brandon Marshall may not be on the cards.
What do you think Deontay Wilder’s next move will be?
