On Thursday, July 29, many Snapchat users swarmed its Twitter support page claiming the app wasn’t working for them.
No, it’s not just you, something is definitely up with Snapchat. Social media apps crashing once in a while is a very common occurrence. However, when that happens daily users of these apps are the ones that suffer these issues the most.
While there’s little clarity about what’s happened to Snapchat, since July 29 it seems to be down. Many Snapchat users have taken to Twitter in the past hours to detail what issues they have been facing.

Issues with Snapchat explored
Snapchat is down for thousands of users at the moment. The app’s Twitter support page is being flooded with queries. In addition to this, over 50,000 reports have been posted on the Downdetector site. Hence Snapchat being down on July 29 might just be one of the largest server issues of 2021.
Users on Twitter have detailed that the app isn’t letting them use core features like logging in. Some users also demonstrated how the app wasn’t even opening for them.
Many have also reported they deleted the app after facing issues, hoping that re-downloading would help. However, Snapchat wasn’t downloading once deleted.
Some users were also worried about accidentally having sent some questionable snaps out. Now that Snapchat is crashing, they are unable to delete those snaps. Both Apple (iPhone) and Android users seem to be facing the issue of Snapchat crashing.

App runners respond on Twitter support page
As users began swarming Snapchat’s Twitter support page, the app runners were quick to respond. The company tweeted, “We’re aware of an issue preventing some Snapchatters from logging in. Hang tight, we are looking into it and working on a fix!”
Sadly, at the moment the company has not provided any further clarification about why Snapchat is down. The app’s estimated time of arrival (ETA) is not revealed yet too. Hence, for now, the users can only sit tight and hope it gets resolved sooner.
Snapchat is also encouraging its users to connect with them via DM’s to get their issues resolved.
However, there is a possible fix. A Twitter user named Kimberly has suggested that doing the following can help unlock the app, “Okay okay if this happens to anyone else go to the Snapchat support website then to my account & security then my account is locked and then click the blue highlight that says unlock my account and it’ll ask fir user and password and then you can unlock!.”
Please note, there is no guarantee that this might work, but trying won’t hurt right!
What will happen to your snaps while the app is down?
There is no good news about the app being fixed from Snapchat Support at the moment. However, users who are worried about their snaps can sigh in relief noting that, delete is Snapchat’s default.
This means most messages you have sent over Snapchat are scheduled to be deleted once they are viewed or have expired. Hence the app’s servers automatically delete all unopened Snaps after 30 days. Also, note that the unopened Snaps from your Group Chats get deleted in 24 hours.
