Since Thursday, September 16, many users have swarmed Twitter to report that TikTok is down.
TikTok is the go-to app for many these days. Whether it’s to unleash your creativity by making videos or to kick back and relax by watching random clips, the social media platform is the internet’s entertainment hub.
Hence, TikTok not working wasn’t something that users were going to let slide.

Is TikTok really down?
The answer to this question is a yes and no.
While some users are experiencing issues with the app, it is not down for everyone.
Many who took to Twitter, reported that there was potentially an error with TikTok’s server, which is why they weren’t being let into the app.
Many users reported that they are facing a number of problems, including not being able to post videos, watch other creators’ videos, comment etc. Many also reported that they weren’t even able to access their account at all.
Some users tweeted @tiktoksupport and claimed that their account had been banned despite not committing any violations.
The issue doesn’t seem to be as widespread as one would think. We checked the apps functioning here at HITC and it seems to be working just fine for us.
But, if latest tweets about TikTok are anything to go by, the issue is still ongoing for many.

TikTok Support responds to the issue
After hundreds of users brought the issue to light, TikTok finally addressed the situation on Twitter.
The platform tweeted: “We’re aware that some people experienced app issues earlier today. We’ve been working on a fix, and your experience should be returning to normal soon.”
While users speculated, TikTok Support did not reveal the reason behind this outage. Via the support page, the app runners reached out to many users and asked them to send a DM with their username and specific details about the issue.
Moreover, TikTok also tried to make light of the situation by posting another tweet: “Since we were trending at #2 my boss says I get a day off ¯_(ツ)_/¯ #TikTokDown.”
Predictably, users who are desperately waiting for hours aren’t humoured by this.
