WARSAW, Poland — Italian-Dutch company Revolv Space has its first customer for the company’s next-generation solar array drive assembly (SADA) for medium-sized platforms and constellations, a product known as MARA.
Filippo Oggionni, the chief commercial officer and co-founder of Revolv Space, told SpaceNews that the company has sold 10 units of MARA, which Revolve launched at this week’s Space Tech Expo in Bremen, Germany.
“We’ve been working on a new solution to solve a major industry bottleneck, and we’re excited to finally bring it to market with an official product launch,” Oggionni said.
Revolv Space pitches MARA as a solution that fills the gap between body-mounted solar arrays and costly, bespoke-design SADAs sold by legacy manufacturers.
The producer said in a statement that, as an evolution and successor to SARA, Revolv’s small SADA, MARA is aimed at power-intensive satellites between 300 and 1000 kg in wet mass. The company envisions MARA for use in Europe’s IRIS2 constellation. The new actuation system, which is based on Revolv’s proprietary and flight-proven twist capsule technology, considerably enhances power generation capabilities required for power-hungry satellite platforms of up to 1,000 kg and 10 kW.
Earlier this year, Revolv Space was selected to supply six units of SARA to Blue Canyon Technologies’ cubesat mission.
