The hilarious moment was not the only moment to trigger laughter in the benches on Thursday morning – MPs were in stitches when Speaker John Bercow was almost unable to speak as he lost his voice.
The Speaker was opening the parliamentary session on Thursday when he struggled to make himself heard when a sore throat cruelly reduced his customary booming cry of “Order! Order” to a painful-sounding growl.
He kicked off the day’s parliamentary session in a much less flamboyant style than usual and was forced to clear his throat mid- ”Order, order” and struggle with his words in a noticeably hoarse voice.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Boris Johnson is to face a grilling from MPs over his new Brexit plan.
The Tory leader is appearing before MPs to explain his new offer to Brussels.
