Jane Fonda hilariously THROWS award certificate at Palme d’Or winner who accidentally left scroll onstage
Jane Fonda hilariously found herself having to throw the Palme d’Or at the winning director during the Cannes Film Festival.
French director Justine Triet earned the prize this year for her thriller Anatomy Of A Fall, about a woman battling accusations that she murdered her husband.
Justine took the stage to proudly accept the prize – but in a slapstick turn of events, she accidentally left an award scroll on the lectern.
As Justine walked away obviously to her mistake, Jane, 85, who presented the prize, hurried to the lectern and grabbed the certificate to give it to her.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, Jane failed to get Justine’s attention was eventually so exasperated that she flung the award at her.

The winner still did not turn around, leaving a flabbergasted Jane to spread her arms wide in a gesture of frustration.
A man onstage also picked up the piece of paper and attempted to turn it over to Justine, who was so caught up in the moment that she still neglected to notice.
Justine was one of a record seven women directors in the running for this year’s Palme d’Or, and was only the third female winner in history.
While presenting the prize onstage, Jane noted that the first Cannes Film Festival she attended was in 1963, adding: ‘There were no women directors competing at that time, and it never even occurred to us that there was something wrong with that.’
Jane Campion became the first woman to earn a Palme d’Or for her 1993 drama The Piano, followed by Julia Ducournau for the 2021 body horror flick Titane.
Titane, which stunned audience members its wacky plotline involving a woman who gets impregnated by a Cadillac, was an infamously polarizing pick.
This year’s Cannes included a Rendezvous with Jane Fonda that grabbed headlines for the veteran actress’ gossipy bon mots, some compiled by Deadline.
She dished the dirt on her old collaborators, accusing Robert Redford of having ‘an issue with women’ and theorizing that Michael Douglas ‘probably doesn’t like me.’

Jane also expressed a personal distaste for Jean-Luc Godard, saying: ‘He was a great filmmaker. I take my hat off. A great filmmaker. But as a man? I’m sorry. No, no.’
Lee Marvin on the other hand was ‘fabulous’ and ‘always drunk,’ and working with her father and Katharine Hepburn on On Golden Pond was ‘one of the most glorious experiences of my life. It was absolutely wonderful.’
Jane herself won an honorary Palme d’Or at the Cannes in 2007, plus the festival’s Kering Women In Motion Award in 2015.
Kering, whose CEO is Salma Hayek’s husband François-Henri Pinault, is a top-flight French luxury goods firm with a glittering list of subsidiaries that includes Yves Saint-Laurent, Balenciaga, Gucci and Alexander McQueen.
