Police Scotland’s proposed law explored
According to The Scottish Sun, Police Scotland are considering allowing male attackers to identify as women in cases of sexual offences and attempted assaults by mid-2022.
According to the report, those who have been accused will be able to self-identify without the need for gender identification documents from the police.
Detective Superintendent Fil Capaldi said: “The sex/ gender identification of individuals who come into contact with the police will be based on how they present or how they self-declare, which is consistent with the values of the organisation.
“Police Scotland requires no evidence or certification as proof of biological sex or gender identity other than a person’s self-declaration, unless it is pertinent to any investigation with which they are linked.”
As per a freedom of information request in summer 2021, Police Scotland confirmed that a “male who self-identifies as a woman… would be expected to be recorded as female on relevant police systems”.

JK Rowling responds to news article on Twitter
JK Rowling responded to the proposed law from Police Scotland by retweeting an article from The Sunday Times.
The article detailed how Police Scotland have been criticised for the proposed law.
Sharing the article on Twitter, the Harry Potter author wrote: “War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength. The Penised Individual Who Raped You Is a Woman.”
Rowling’s remarks landed her in a wide debate with some Twitter users criticizing the author’s input on the situation.
In her Twitter post, Rowling has quoted George Orwell who wrote in the first chapter of his novel ‘1984’: “War is peace / freedom is slavery [and] ignorance is strength”, which as per Literary Devices, describes “reality of accepting two mutually opposing beliefs simultaneously as correct”.
HITC has reached out to JK Rowling for a comment.
This isn’t the first time that Rowling has sparked backlash about her views on trans lives.
In a 2019 Twitter post, the Harry Potter author shared her support for Maya Forstater, who has fought to have “gender critical” views protected under the Equality Act.
Rowling also penned a lengthy essay about trans right movements, as per previous reports.
