WATFORD were rescued at the death in their relegation six-pointer against Newcastle.
The hero was Joao Pedro, who rose highest in between Magpies’s new signing Kieran Trippier and Jamal Lascelles to head his side level at 1-1.
It was no surprise it was Newcastle’s star man Allan Saint-Maximin who broke the deadlock just four minutes into the second half.
He dispossessed Jeremy Ngakia on the flank, cut inside before slamming the ball past Ben Forster in the Hornets’ goal.
Watford spurned a glorious chance to equalise in the 66th minute when ex-Magpie Mo Sissoko blazed over the bar from 12 yards with just the keeper to beat.
But it was 20-year-old Pedro who rescued a vital point for in the 88th minute for Claudio Ranieri’s troops.
