23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams will next play at the 2021 Miami Open, which starts during the third week of March. Last year, the event was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, whereas Williams had withdrawn from the tournament in 2019, citing a left knee injury.
However, in a career spanning over two decades, Williams has won an impressive eight titles at the Miami Open. Recently, the American uploaded an Instagram video of her practicing with the Bulgarian tennis star, Grigor Dimitrov.
Serena Williams hit the court with Dimitrov
Having been good friends for years, Williams hit a few rallies with Dimitrov with both players displaying their powerful groundstrokes.
In fact, it wasn’t the first time the duo has practiced together. Williams has hit the practice court with Dimitrov on many occasions, including during the 2019 Australian Open and Rome Masters the same year.
“Just a casual hit @grigordimitrov,” captioned Williams, apprising her 12.9 million Instagram followers about her fun-packed practice session.
Just over a week back, Williams lost in the semifinals of the 2021 Australian Open to the eventual champion Naomi Osaka. The 39-year-old got tearful during the post-match conference over having lost another chance to equal Margaret Court’s record of winning 24 Grand Slam titles.
Over the last four years, Williams has lost in all her four Majors’ finals and also in two other Grand Slam semifinals.
While on the other end, Dimitrov lost in the quarterfinals at Melbourne Park to Aslan Karatsev after being hampered by a back injury. The former World No.3 appeared in imperious form as he defeated Dominic Thiem in the fourth round but suffered an injury before his quarterfinal match.
Just like Williams, Dimitrov will also take part in the upcoming Miami Open, a tournament where he has never gone past the third round. What do you make of Williams and Dimitrov’s chance at the Miami Open?
