Kate Garraway has urged anti-vaxxers to “come and spend an hour” in her house as he cares for her husband Derek Draper.
Former political lobbyist and father-of-two Derek caught Covid early on into the pandemic and was put in an induced coma as the virus wreaked havoc on his body and his organs. Whilst he is out of his coma now, he still needs 24/7 care as his body slowly recovers.
Kate has issued a powerful message to those who are against having the coronavirus vaccine, asking them to see Derek and how he is coping, as she tells them she doesn’t think they’d be “left in any doubt” to get the jab after seeing it first hand.

She told The Telegraph’s Stellar magazine : “Listen, I just don’t have the mental space to feel angry. And I understand that this pandemic has been devastating for people in lots of different ways.
“I still feel acutely sorry for the friends whose businesses have gone under, for example. I also get why people feel they should be allowed to make decisions about their own bodies.”
Whilst she understands people’s stance on the vaccine, Kate urged them to consider how they would feel if their loved one was struggling in the same way her husband Derek is.
“But all I would say to those people is, ‘Come and spend an hour in our house,'” she added.
“Because if you knew that two shots would prevent that happening to somebody you loved. I don’t think you’d be left in any doubt.”
Whilst things have been incredibly difficult for the Good Morning Britain presenter and her family, Kate recently shared a positive update on her husband, revealing he “understands everything” now.
“His eyes lit up. We are very clear now that he does understand everything really, and understands everything that I tell him about,” she said as she appeared on the ITV breakfast show.

“He can’t respond still and communicate, and Derek’s been having lots more tests of things. We went to hospital a few weeks ago, (which was) the first time he’d seen medics outside of the home.”
She added: “They asked him to hold his breath and release his breath, he asked absolutely everything they asked of him.
“Also just reactions to things and reactions to the children [Darcey, 15, and Billy, 12], his responses are appropriate. It does really feel that way as if he is reacting.”
