As Love Island fever grips the nation, Kate Lawler took to Instagram to remind her fans about the time when the famous dating show used to feature celebrity contestants.
The mum-of-one, who was the first female winner of Big Brother in 2002, was preparing to watch the latest episode of the hit ITV2 show on Tuesday night when she opened up about her stint on the island back in 2006.
Speaking to fiancé Martin, aka “BOJ”, the Virgin Radio presenter dished the dirt on the original version of the popular series.
She was among the celebrities who jetted to Fiji to take part in the all-star dating show, which was hosted Patrick Kielty and Fearne Cotton.
During her social media update, Kate revealed which Hollyoaks actor she smooched during her stint on the show and which famous contestant wasn’t too happy about her and appearance on the island.
Filming her partner, who she affectionally refers to as “The Handsome”, Kate told fans he had never watched her series of Love Island as they debated whether to watch this year’s offering.
“Who knew I appeared in one of two celebrity Love Islands back in the day?” the new mum asked her followers via a poll on her Instagram stories.
“I can’t remember the year, but there I am,” she continued, sharing a publicity shot of her in a bikini prior to joining the show.
After “looking her up” on the Internet, dad-of-one Martin informed his girlfriend it was in fact 2006 when she appeared on the second series of the original Love Island.
Kate then went on to post a picture of Lady Victoria Hervey, Sophie Anderson and Bianca Gascoigne, who starred on the show alongside her, and dished the dirt on some famous feuds.
Pointing at the image of Sophie wearing an orange bikini, she said: “She [Sophie] apparently had it written in her contract that I wasn’t allowed to go on Love Island.
“They edited it really cleverly,” she explained when discussing her late arrival on the show.
“They showed a boat coming in, with all the islanders like ‘Omg, someone new’s coming to the island – I wonder who it could be?’ and someone said ‘It might be Kate Lawler?’
“Sophie then said ‘No, it wouldn’t be Kate Lawler because I’ve had it written into my contract that it’s not allowed to be her’ and then they cut directly to me waving on the boat.”
The blonde broadcaster went on to reveal that despite an awkward start, the pair actually got on alright during their time together on the island but admitted that Bianca was her favourite co-star from the 2006 series.
Kate also used her time reminiscing to set the record straight on a vintage rumour.
“And can we just address the Lee Otway rumours of me snogging him?” she said against a backdrop of the actor, who played David “Bombhead” Burke in the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks.
“Lee Otway and I did not play tonsil tennis in Love Island in 2006, alright?”
Kate’s partner Martin was heard off-camera, playfully asking her if she is sure about that.
“I gave him a little peck on the lips and that was that. It was a friendly peck on the lips.”
Romance was certainly off the cards between the Big Brother star and Lee due to the actor’s love of cigarettes.
“He smoked and I remember saying ‘You’ve got fag breath!’
“We shared a bed in Love Island because we were mates and all we did was laugh at Brendan from Strictly Come Dancing.”
Despite being a late arrival on the show, Kate ended up coming runner up on the second series of celebrity Love Island, with Calum Best and Bianca Gascoigne winning the 2006 show.
