An artificial lake in Hong Kong Disneyland has been closed indefinitely as police are investigating the discovery of a partially charred body.
The Inspiration Lake Recreation Centre announced on Monday on its website that the facility on Lantau Island had suspended its operations “until further notice”.
Police officers and multiple vehicles were spotted conducting investigations inside the park earlier in the day.
The 12-hectare (29-acre) lake, located at Penny’s Bay, about 1km (0.6 miles) from Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, opens to the public daily.
The body was reportedly discovered by a couple beneath a tree on Sunday. Staff members at the centre then reported it to police at 3.30pm.
Officers and Fire Services Department personnel arrived at the scene and launched an investigation. Police have classified the case as a “dead body found”.
There were burns on the upper part of the body. No personal belongings or traces of accelerants were found, according to media reports.
