Duolingo has gone viral online as users commented on it’s unique alerts.

The language app, which is known for having green owl Duo as it’s logo, often sends users reminders to keep learning if they haven’t used it for a while.

However, some have joked online that the bird is rather “manipulative”.

This is because it is often seen crying or sending what some seem to think are passive aggressive messages.

The app went viral on Twitter as one social media user shared her experience.

The Twitter user, known as Olive, sent a screenshot of the cartoon crying, with the writing: “We haven’t seen you in a while.”

Duolingo had also written in it’s email to Olive: “You made Duo sad.”

Olive called the owl the “ultimate male manipulator”.

Fans were in stitches over the tweet, as it racked up more than 51,000 retweets and 513,000 likes.

Another Twitter user named Christie share a screenshot from Duo which read: “Hi! It’s Duo. These reminders don’t seem to be working. We’ll stop sending them for now,” as she captioned it: “So passive aggressive.”

While another shared a screenshot from Duo which said: “Hi! I miss you.”

A third screenshot read: “Your French lessons won’t take themselves.”

Talking about the situation, one user exclaimed: “Damn bird showed up in my dreams after skipping three days of French.”

While another scolded: “That bird is so toxic.”

A third meanwhile claimed they were “scared” of the owl.

The app, which as launched back in 2009, offers 98 different language courses in 38 languages

Duolingo currently has more than 300 million registered users across the world.

As well as the Duolingo post, another Twitter fan went viral this week as she spoke about her divorced parents online.

Social media user Rhiannan revealed how her dad , who is a bin man is getting some petty, but genius, revenge on her mum.

She had people laughing as she told her 1,187 followers: “Mum and dad are divorced and my Dad’s a bin man and he empties my mums bin and purposely puts the bin back far away so she has to go walk to collect it and I wonder why I’m so petty hahahahahahha.”
