Laura Tobin has revealed that when she was only 14-years-old, she phoned up the Met Office to quiz them on what exam results she would need in order to fulfil her dream of becoming a meteorologist.

The Good Morning Britain star, 40, knew from a very young age that being able to determine the weather and climate was something she had a burning passion for – and she wasn’t going to stop until her dreams came true.

Fast-forward over 26-years and Laura is regarded as one of the most-loved and most-respected broadcast meteorologists in the UK.

The dedicated and determined star didn’t stop until she reached her goal, and it all started with her phoning up the Met Office after her interest was sparked in school during a life-changing lesson.

In her brand-new book, Every Day Ways To Save The Planet, Laura detailed her journey to becoming a weather whizz.

Throughout the pages of her innovative and inspiring new book, Laura explained her love for the weather and how it first sprouted during a memorable Geography lesson in school.

“I’ve been forecasting the weather for over 17 years now, but my love for the subject started much earlier in life – during a particularly memorable geography lesson when I was just 14,” she penned.

“My teacher, Mr Hannant, asked all the boys to stand in one straight line and all the girls to stand in another straight line next to the boys, as though we were about to start two conga lines. Then he told us to run across the classroom as quickly as we could.

“We had to push against each other until we got to the other side. When we made it, our lines weren’t straight anymore – they were wiggly. And that, he said, was how weather was created. What he had done was create a jet stream in our classroom.

“The jet stream is a conveyor belt of winds high up in the atmosphere – and it is this that brings weather fronts to our shores.”

Laura knew from that moment on that forecasting the weather was her calling.

The ambitious teenager set out to become a meteorologist from then on, and put in place all her goals so that she would one day work as a broadcast meteorologist.

“From that moment on, I was hooked,” Laura gushed in the pages of her new book.

“At 14, I called up the Met Office to see what exam results I would need. And the rest, they say, is history.”

Laura shares thrifty life hacks as part of her new book, Everyday Ways To Save Our Planet, released by Mirror Books.

Within the pages, Laura offers plenty of tips and tricks to help people make a difference to saving the planet by making small everyday changes to their routines – including recycling, organising food waste, and cutting down on the use of plastics.

Throughout her informative book on climate change, Laura insisted that she will do everything in her power to make the world a better place for her daughter, and hopes that in time, the damage that has been done to the planet can one day be reversed by the actions of people who take being eco-friendly seriously.

The meteorologist shared a number of shocking statistics in her new book – one in particular which stated that the UK only recycles 47% of it’s plastic waste.

Laura Tobin: Everyday Ways To Save Our Planet, RRP £14.99, is out on 7 April and published by Mirror Books.
