Liam Payne has faced the wrath of his fans after reportedly making a thousands of miles trip for a game of golf shortly after vowing to reduce his carbon footprint.
The former One Direction singer, 28, jetted to Costa Rica in a 10,000 miles round trip with his fiancee Maya Henry after he had publicly supported Earth Day.
He had also launched his own sustainable collection with HUGO, but news of his faraway jaunt isn’t going to sit well with supporters of the cause.
He is said to have gone on the golfing trip to the exclusive Ocean Course on the peninsula before heading back home to London just days later.
The elusive resort boasts some fantastic holes and brings in a range of celebs to the course. It also has the unique experience of monkeys hanging from the trees around each hole.
A source told The Sun : “Liam has really fallen in love with the sport. He’s the first to admit he’s not the best player but to his credit he’s putting in the hours. He’d [seen] the costal course online and was desperate to try it out.
“As he had a gap in his schedule he and Maya flew out to Costa Rica for a few days but they are now home.”
It’s thought that the pair didn’t use a private jet this time and used commercial flights for their trip.
The Mirror contacted Liam’s representatives for comment.
Last year, the singer was vocal in his bid to get people to be more cautious about their carbon footprint.
Taking to Twitter in April last year, he said: “Happy #EarthDay everyone! Now more than ever it’s important for us all to help the planet and reflect on our impact on it.
“I’m excited to learn more about the environment and do what I can to reduce my footprint on it.”
He has also opened up about eating less meat after saying he was “deeply disturbed” after sitting down to watch hit Netflix documentary Seaspiracy.
The dad-of-one added: “Sustainability, it’s something we all hear about very much these days.
“I have to admit I hadn’t given it as much thought as I should have. And then [on] Netflix, I watched Seaspiracy and was deeply disturbed.
“I mean it’s difficult to pick the truth out of any of these things these days because, you know, there’s so much news out there. You never know which one to listen to.”
