Lil Durk has responded to Kanye West’s request for him to drop new music, and it seems like the mission is underway.
On Thursday (January 25), the 31-year-old answered a brief message posted on Ye’s Instagram Stories the day prior that read: “Tell Durk activate his instagram it’s time to drop.”
Posting a screenshot of the slide on Twitter, Smurk wrote: “Love songs 4 the streets 3 done…….. ima be on asap [eight bandaged-heart emojis].”
The above social media update refers to his album series that comprises Love Songs 4 the Streets (2017) and Love Songs 4 the Streets 2 (2019). Now he seems to have its third installment ready.
Last year, Kanye West was reportedly looking to bring Lil Durk to G.O.O.D. Music and buy the rapper out of his record deal.
According to a source who spoke to TMZ, the Yeezy boss was “in talks” to buy out Lil Durk — who was signed to Def Jam before going independent and joining the Alamo Records team in the summer of 2018 — from his current record deal at 300/Alamo Records.
The report alleged that 300 CEO Todd Moscowitz refused to clear another Durk verse — separate from his recent collaboration with Kanye — for the mogul’s upcoming album, which caused some friction between the OTF boss and the label.
Ye and Ty Dolla $ign’s “Vultures” featuring Bump J and Durk initially premiered on WPWX Power 92 Chicago last November, but when the track landed on streaming services, the “AHHH HA” hitmaker’s bars were nowhere to be found. However, his vocals were added on streaming platforms soon after.
Talks to get Durk out of his record deal may have intensified when he and Kanye West spent time together during trip to Dubai over the winter. The singer and rapper brought out Kanye, Ty, and Bump J during his club appearance where they performed the live debut of “Vultures.”
According to West’s former manager and longtime associate John Monopoly in a statement to HipHopDX, Ye even called for a joint tour between the four artists, saying: “We need the world tour.”
