MATCH PREVIEW
Leicester head to Anfield having gone into the weekend as Premier League leaders and Brendan Rodgers can deny his former club the chance to go a new club record 64 league games at home without defeat.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said: “Leicester not only showed last year how good they can be, this year again. They changed their style slightly maybe because of the injuries they had.
“Good example of how you can deal with an ‘injury crisis’. Did really well, are in a good moment, have a clear idea how they want to play.
“It’s a tough one and, of course, they are contenders for everything. They were last year for a long, long period and this year they are more experienced in situations.”
He added of Leicester’s top scorer Jamie Vardy: “His speed first and foremost, it’s incredible. How he uses that, how smart he is, how he developed his game over the years – he’s a massive threat for everybody.
“He gambles in a good way with the last line, he’s taking a risk in these situations. But his technical level is really good as well – not only finishing, but first touch and all these kind of things. Jamie is a proper, proper player, I have to say.
“It’s always a challenge to defend him and the only way I know to defend him is to make sure he doesn’t get the pass he wants. That means we have to defend all the others as well.”
While ex-Reds boss Rodgers, who has been at Leicester since February 2019, said: “Liverpool is an incredible club, they’ve been Premier League champions and European champions.
“They’re a top-level team. We know we have to be at our best to get a result. They’ve got top class players.
“We’ve seen it ourselves with our injuries that the players have come in and done really well and that will be the same for them. It will be a really tough game.
“It’s an extremely difficult one. Even with players missing it’s still a squad of world-class players. You’re going to have to be aggressive when you’re defending and clinical in attack.
“You want to play the best and they have clearly been that.”
He added when quizzed about any possible title hopes for the Foxes: “I haven’t even thought about it. We’ve only played eight games.
“We want to keep the humility we have in the group and prepare as best as we can for every game.”
