Alisson’s father, Jose Becker, died after drowning in a lake near his holiday home in Brazil, local police say. The Liverpool goalkeeper has broken his silence on the tragedy on social media this evening.
The 57-year-old is said to have been swimming at a dam near his property in the afternoon on Wednesday.
Brazilian club Internacional, where Alisson started his football career, tweeted their condolences to the goalkeeper and his brother, Muriel.
“It is with great sadness that we received the news of Jose Agostinho Becker’s death, the father of our ex-goalkeepers Alisson and Muriel,” the club said.
Alisson has thanked all those for their support today.

Messages of support were plentiful on social media throughout Thursday as the news broke.
Alisson’s Liverpool team-mates Adrian and Virgil van Dijk both expressed their support on Instagram, the former writing: “We are all with you hermano.”
Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea also gave his condolences.
It is unclear whether Alisson will attend the funeral of his father with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Liverpool will allow Alisson to make whatever decision he wishes which could result in them being without their goalkeeper for a period of time.
The Brazilian may not feature again until after the international break due to quarantine rules if he does travel to Brazil.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has spoken to Alisson at length and offered his support in any way.
