GOOD EVENING
Welcome to our live blog of Liverpool against Ajax in the Champions League.
Liverpool’s work in Group D is not yet done, after a surprising 2-0 home defeat to Atalanta last week.
Jurgen Klopp’s side had won their first three games of the group and looked to be certain to qualify for the knockout stages, but last weeks loss means the group is now wide open.
However, as long as Liverpool avoid defeat this evening, they will qualify for the last sixteen of the competition.
The Reds are currently top of Group D on nine points, with Atalanta and Ajax tied on seven points.
Danish side Midtjylland are bottom of the group, having yet to pick up a point this campaign.
The last time these two sides faced each other, Jurgen Klopp’s side ran out narrow 1-0 winners in Amsterdam in October, courtesy of a Nicolas Tagliofico own goal.
It could be a tense evening at Anfield tonight though, as the Reds are missing numerous players through injury.
A welcome boost for Jurgen Klopp is the expected return of Joel Matip, but Trent Alexander-Arnold, Xherdan Shaqiri, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Thiago Alcantara, James Milner and Naby Keita are still out, while Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez are nursing long term injuries.
Kick off is at 8pm and team news will follow shortly.
