Conservative MP Sir David Amess has reportedly been stabbed multiple times at his constituency surgery.
The Southend West MP, 69, was reportedly stabbed multiple times while holding a constituency meeting at Belfairs Methodist Chruch in Leigh-on-Sea.
A man walked into his constituency surgery before stabbing him multiple times, according to Sky News.
Amess is believed to be receiving treatment for his injuries at the scene.
In a statement, Essex Police confirmed a man had been arrested and a knife recovered following the incident.
“We were called to reports of a stabbing in Eastwood Road North shortly after 12.05pm today,” the statement read.

“Officers were on the scene shortly after, arrested a man and recovered a knife.
“He is currently in custody.
“We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the wider public.

“We want to thank the public who alerted us to the incident so quickly.
“We need anyone who saw anything or has CCTV, dash cam or doorbell footage to contact us.”
Amess has been an MP since 1983, and has served as MP for Southend West since 1997.
A woman working in a nearby shop told PoliticsHome: “There’s been police, ambulances and the air ambulance. Everyone’s just in shock really.”
News of the incident has prompted an outpouring of concern from politicians, with former Prime Minister David Cameron writing: “Very alarming and worrying news reports coming from Leigh-on-Sea. My thoughts and prayers are with Sir David Amess and his family.”
Fellow Conservative MP Michael Fabricant, said: “David Amess is one of the most lovely, uncontentious, caring MPs in Parliament. This is just awful.
Ian Blackford, the SNP’s Westminster leader, added: “This is truly awful news. My thoughts and prayers are with David and his family.”
