A Florida man’s gardening plans took an unexpected turn when he opened a bag of mulch and discovered three baby raccoons nestled inside.
Unsure how to help the tiny creatures, he reached out to Owl’s Nest Sanctuary for Wildlife.
Following the sanctuary’s advice, the man brought the raccoons back to the Home Depot where he’d purchased the mulch.
Employees at the garden center quickly confirmed that the mother raccoon had been spotted nearby.
To everyone’s relief, the reunion unfolded just as they hoped. “In a heartwarming reunion, the mother raccoon cautiously approached and, one by one, picked up each of her babies,” the sanctuary shared. She relocated them to a safer area, far from the busy store.
The sanctuary praised the man and Home Depot staff for their quick thinking. “This incident was a beautiful reminder of the unexpected surprises nature can bring and the importance of acting quickly and compassionately,” they wrote.
