Marks and Spencer caused quite a stir among certain shoppers over the name of a denim style.
The high street chain shared a photo of its “mom jeans” which currently retails for £39.50.
Posting on Facebook, M&S said: “Tuesday morning strolls in neutral tones and our trusty mom jeans.”
The jeans are available in six different colours, including cream, black and a number of shades of blue, in sizes 6 to 20.
According to Manchester Evening News, the item has racked up four stars and hundreds of reviews on the M&S website.
But over on social media, customers weren’t exactly pleased so they hit back at the name of the style.
One social media fan wrote: “Why are you using Mom rather than Mum?
“Please stop using that term for that style most Mums I know wear skinny or slim or boyfriend ones.
“And that includes us older Mums too!”
Another commented: “M&S can I just say I am never going to wear something called ‘mom jeans’. Do you have ‘dad’ jeans too?”

A third asked: “Since when have we been American? What are these ‘mom’ jeans you’re so keen on showing us.
“Look like painters overalls to be truthful and could you not have gotten a real mum.
“The one who looks as if she hasn’t slept for a week and has jammy fingerprints on those jeans…”
But many shoppers pointed out the term “mom jeans” is a common name used in the fashion industry.
The high-waisted rigid style was inspired by Levi’s 501s and became a popular trend in the late 1980s in America.
On Facebook, one wrote: “You can tell the people who are not really bothered about fashion trends.
“Mom jeans have been around for years, just the same as boyfriend jeans. M&S didn’t name them, it’s a style.”
While another shopper praised: “I really like the cut of these jeans.”
